On August 30, 2025, Professor Gao Jingxiang from China University of Mining and Technology was invited for an academic exchange at the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture. He delivered a lecture titled "Reforming Geomatics Engineering and Restructuring the Curriculum System in the Intelligent Era" in Conference Room E209. The event was attended by all faculty members from the Geomatics Engineering and Urban-Rural Planning programs and was chaired by Professor Sun Xiaorong, Director of the Local Service Office and Program Lead for Geomatics Engineering.
Professor Gao provided a detailed exposition covering: the current situation of geomatics engineering, challenges in program nomenclature and curriculum design, framework for a modernized geomatics program, the essence of intelligent geomatics systems, and curriculum restructuring strategies for the AI era. In conclusion, he emphasized that reforming geomatics education and redesigning curricula under intelligentization is a long-term, systematic endeavor requiring collaboration among universities, industry partners, and educators.
The lecture was well-grounded, logically structured, and blended in-depth industry analysis with concrete reform suggestions.
